Keep

  • Bottles sharp enough to read as authentic labels, without needing to be specifically legible. These photos need to work beyond when these vintages will be sold.
  • Prefer all photos of people to feel candid and unposed, with nobody looking at the camera.
  • A bounce is fine if an aisle is dark.

Leave behind

  • No need to match the exact poses or bottles in the current photos, but do draw inspiration from them.
  • Don’t rebuild a brighter, emptier version of the shop.
  • No need to shoot individual bottle shots for the shop.

Setup

Convive: Preparation for shoot

People

  • Jesse Warner-Levine: portraits, counter with wine, tasting shots, portrait with Blue for the About page.
  • Blue Teramoto: portraits, tasting shots.
  • Isabel Tschurr: portraits, packing boxes, tasting shots.
  • Floor staff: whoever is working or available for portraits.

Items to prepare

  • The gift boxes, tissue, cards, and tape Convive actually ships.
  • A few bottles Jesse would put in front of a client, including one sake and one spirit that are really on the shelf.
  • Wine glasses, water glasses, notepads, and pens for tasting shots.
  • A simple board — cheese, bread, something already in the shop — only if the event frames are happening.
  • Bags or wraps if a blind tasting is easy to fake with real bottles.

Shop

  • Normal retail day, 11am–10pm.
  • Ideally, for a few shots, staff interacting with or helping customers.

Hero Video & Tasting

Priority 1Widescreen 16:9

H1 · Homepage video

  • Shoot video at 60fps or higher so we can run it in slow motion. Each shot about 5–10 seconds.
  • These four sequences cut together as one loop. The clips below are what’s on the site now.
1. A person reaching for a bottle from the shelf and examining it.
2. An employee packing a Convive gift box with wine of Jesse’s choice, and the accoutrements.
3. Jesse, or another employee, speaking with a customer about a bottle of wine.
4. A staged wine tasting at the back shop table.
Three generated people taste wine at a pale table.
Priority 1Wide

H2 · Tasting

  • Jesse and one or two colleagues, tasting and comparing wines.
  • Real bottles, a few glasses, water, paper.
  • Three people is enough.

Shop

Shop section hero images

Hands hold a dark bottle with an illustrated label in front of a pale wine wall.
Priority 1Widescreen 2:1

S1 · Wine

  • Hands, or a person from the side, taking one real bottle.
  • Shallow depth of field, focused on the label of the wine being pulled. Ideally a darker background.
A man seen from behind reaches into a wall of evenly spaced bottles.
Priority 1Widescreen 2:1

S2 · Shop wall

  • An employee at the wine wall, reaching.
  • Back or three-quarter view.
  • Let the shelf stay crowded.
A person in a black jacket lifts a whisky bottle from tissue paper beside a sink and hanging glasses.
Priority 2Widescreen 2:1

S3 · Spirits

  • The real spirits shelf, or someone wrapping a bottle the shop sells.
Hands hold a dark sake bottle whose label reads like a generated brand, Divine Droplets.
Priority 2Widescreen 2:1

S4 · Sake

  • A sake bottle from the shelf. Label toward camera.
A person at a wood table with a cocktail shaker, a waiter’s friend, and a linen napkin.
Priority 2Widescreen 2:1

S5 · Other

  • Feature items actually stocked that aren’t bottles. This section may be renamed from Other to Barware, or something else.
A red neon letter C hangs in a shop window, with a man holding a bottle inside.
Priority 2Widescreen 2:1

S6 · Search

  • The real window, from the sidewalk.
  • Best when the light is getting low outside, so the neon sign reads well.
Overhead of a tasting table with bottles, glasses, and notes, from the same generated scene as the homepage tasting.
Priority 2Wide

S7 · Shop menu

  • Same tasting table as H2, from above.
  • Bottles, two or three glasses, notes, a hand with a pen.

About

About Convive

Black and white photograph of two men smiling in front of a dense wall of real wine labels.
Priority 1Widescreen 2:1

A1 · Team at the shelf

  • Color. People who work here, in front of the shelf.
  • Relaxed, not a lineup. This is what makes Convive feel like a trusted wine partner, not a corporation.
  • Shoot loose on the sides.
  • Prefer a new shot of Blue and Jesse. The current black-and-white can be repurposed if needed.
  • This is the only shot where people can look at the camera. Ideally shoot it both ways, so we can choose.
A generated man in a blue shirt shows a green bottle to a generated woman in a pale wood aisle.
Priority 1Wide

A2 · Employee helping a customer

  • Ideally a floor staff person with a customer, or with someone who isn’t otherwise pictured as an employee.
  • Wide enough to see the wine selection.
  • Also used, tighter, on the contact page.
Close shelf of dark bottles and a handwritten card that says Jesse’s pick.
Priority 2Wide & vertical

A3 · Shelf

  • A real run of bottles.
  • Extreme close-ups of bottles on the shelves, at a slight angle, with shallow depth of field.
  • The “Jesse’s pick” tag was only a suggestion. Capture the notes that are normal at Convive.
A person packs a wine bottle into a plain cardboard box on a pale counter.
Priority 2Vertical

A4 · Packing

  • From the side: bottle, hands, the real counter.
  • Use a box that wine is actually packed in for shipping. It does not have to be a special gift box.

Portraits

Generated portrait used as Jesse: a smiling man in an olive sweatshirt with a bottle on the counter.
Priority 1Vertical

A5 · Jesse

  • At the counter or tasting. Not a headshot.
Generated portrait used as Isabel: a woman with glasses wiping a bottle by a window.
Priority 1Vertical

A6 · Isabel

  • With a list, a box, or a bottle.
Generated portrait used as Blue: a man in yellow glasses and a bolo tie with a glass of red wine.
Priority 1Vertical

A7 · Blue

  • As he actually is in the shop.
Priority 2Vertical

A8 · Floor staff

  • Whoever is working, or is able to show up for portraits.
  • Same setup as the portraits above.
  • Busy doing something in the shop.
  • Not looking at the camera.
  • Medium distance. Person in the center of the frame.
Generated staff portrait, not a real employee.

Corporate

Corporate gifting

Two gray gift boxes with red and yellow circles and the word convive, on a wood counter.
Priority 1Widescreen 16:9

C1 · Gift hero

  • Actual packaging on the counter, shelves behind.
  • Framed like this, with the boxes on the right.
  • Some shots with the boxes closed, others with them open or being packaged.
  • Shoot loose. Events also uses a wide strip of this.
Generated man in an olive sweatshirt behind five bottles with labels reading face b and similar.
Priority 1Wide

C2 · Short list

  • Jesse behind 3–5 bottles he would highlight as unique.
  • Real labels, facing camera.
  • Choosing, not posing.
Stacked gray gift boxes with red and yellow circles and the word convive.
Priority 2Wide

C3 · Stacked boxes

  • We already have these shots. A wide frame of this setup would still help.
  • A few real outgoing boxes on the counter.
  • Shop behind. Doesn’t need to look like a warehouse.
An open gift box with patterned tissue and a tall sleeve covered in scattered letters.
Priority 2Wide

C4 · Open gift

  • We already have these shots. A wide frame of this setup would still help.
  • Include a wine bottle and the other items that go in the box.
  • Some closer shots, with shallow depth of field, of the objects inside the gift box.
  • Counter in front, shelf behind.
A woman holds a whisky bottle up to a shelf in the generated shop.
Priority 2Wide

C5 · Closing photo

  • A person and a bottle, from the side or behind.
  • Used on both Gifting and Events.
  • Highlight a high-end bottle of Japanese whisky, or another spirit. There are plenty of wine shots elsewhere.
Two kraft boxes tied with wide red ribbon, in front of a generated wine wall.
Priority 3

Other packaging

  • If there are packaging or boxing options besides the branded Convive boxes, capture a photo of them. These will show when someone selects gift box options.
  • Also capture other gifting options, such as a white-labeled or branded card, or handwritten cards, if those are offered.

  • Keep faces near the vertical middle. The page crops this short.
A generated host with glasses stands at the head of a tasting table while four people smell wine.
Priority 1Wide

E2 · Host

  • Jesse, Isabel, or another Convive employee standing with one bottle.
  • A few people tasting. Notebooks optional.

A woman stands at the head of a long pale table while six people hold wine glasses.
Priority 2Standard

E5 · Blind tasting

  • Use the same shot as the tasting clip in the homepage video.
